Mathematics is both an ancient and a modern science: as much mathematics has been written in the last 30 years as in the previous 25 centuries. It also has strong and very varied relations with other disciplines. Contemporary mathematics plays an increasing role in the development of science and technology.
The Mathematics department offers a very wide range of teaching. In the second and third years, students may, according to their tastes and career plans, choose the mathematical themes that they wish to study and the depth to which they will be covered.
